Sure, it's a final battle of the story, but this time, Rand is not fighting one of the Forsaken. However, this book does break from the formula that Jordan has been using up to this point to finish off all of his books. Mat, unfortunately, gets very little page time, and what he does get, is anything but interesting. Hopefully the next book, because Jordan has a really interesting plot device with them, that I feel isn't fully utilized.įinally, Perrin and Faile are brought back into the story, at the cost of Morgase, who never shows up.
I would have liked to see more in terms of meeting individual members, how they were recruited, and learning their Talents, if any. The most interesting part of the book for me was the introduction of the Asha'man and the Black Tower, and Jordan hardly spends any time on their development. All the rest of it, is Rand dealing with Lews in his head, the lack of trust for Aes Sedai, and the babbling between the White Tower and the rebels. There are really only a few remarkable events that happen in this book. It's longer than the other book, at almost 1,100 pages, and has a harder time moving the plot forward. If the last book was an introduction to The Slog, this book begins testing your patience.
